Bikers, boaters, and walkers alike are being warned away from the historic, 140-year-old High Bridge over the Chippewa River in downtown Eau Claire. We didn't experience that the last time we rode, but the ranger said it's typical for this time of year. The Trail ends at Main Street (Route 513) in High Bridge. Friends of the High Line raises nearly 100% of the High Line's annual budget. Second day we rode from the Camp Paradise trailhead and rode the 1 mile or so to the High Bridge. The bridge is a key connection between downtown St. Paul and the city's West Side . Bikes are not allowed above Car Wash Falls. There is however a bike shop next to the trail in Farmville. If you don’t do that , the last road is about a mile or more back. Vance Creek Bridge was . Rode last weekend (11/7 and 11/8) and the temps were in the high seventies! The paved Millennium Trail is unaffected. Current Conditions: Picnic area remains open the Panther Creek Trail is temporarily closed. Their deaths remain unsolved. Once a rail bed, the trail is wide, level and generally flat. The trail now runs 7 miles west of Prospect. 2. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. I usually like to ride new trails from end to end, but on my first visit to High Bridge Trail State Park on an overcast and cool Saturday in early October, I decided to start in the trail's center point, the town of Farmville. Utterly boring due to lack of scenery. There are clean bathrooms (but no water) and picnic tables every 4-5 miles. Since it's a former railway it is very flat and not very crowded at all. There are signs along the trail telling cyclists to yield to pedestrians and horses. Some sections are remote so be sure to bring a cell phone and keep track of where you are on the mileage markers. Best view is the bridge but I can only imagine what it's like during the Fall season, not sure you could get by all the people standing on the bridge who want to see the Fall colors on the trees. High Bridge Trail is 31 miles long and ideally suited for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. The Columbia Trail has the distinction of being named for a natural gas pipeline that runs beneath it for 15 miles in rural northern New Jersey. Great view from it. I burned a lot of un-necessary energy riding through these portions of the trail, some of them a mile long or longer. And Farmville is quaint, but, my experience is, plan to park somewhere else.
